Advertising their products, most manufacturers of PVC windows emphasize on the heat insulation, citing the number of cameras of the PVC systems and their thermal conductivity coefficients, using these natural characteristics of PVC profiles as a symbol of quality windows. The truth is that the qualitative glazing factors are complex. Yes, it is true that the better indicators of the profile system are important. Yes, it is true that the glazing with low emission glass is even more important. But your windows to be of high quality and energy efficient, it is also important: the personal consultation, the suitable design and construction, appropriate selection of glass and profile systems, the proper production, and last but not least, the qualitative installation. Imagine that you invest a lot of money in frames made of renowned brands profiles and hardware, and then the time shows that as a result of poor mounting your door is sagging and you cannot open it, or because of faulty production the mechanisms do not function well or have profiles’ deformation above the limit. HOW TO ENSURE MAXIMUM COMFORT AT HOME

The size of the windows is about 25% of the home’s area. If these 25% are covered with energy-efficient windows, the temperature in the home can be enhanced with 4-5°C, and the noise decreased by about 40 dB.
The windows have a huge impact on heat loss at home. The glass area is between 70% and 90% of the window and its characteristics have a significant impact on the overall thermal performance of the windows.
Energy efficient windows:
The windows’ insulation has a great influence on the building thermal protection. The windows have the lowest level of isolation compared to all external elements of buildings. The reduction of windows’ heat transfer can be achieved by improving the thermal performance of glazing, which has greatest impact in terms of thermal losses.
Key characteristics, in terms of windows’ energy characteristics:
  • Heat transfer coefficient (U)
  • Coefficient of solar energy transmittance (g)
The heat that passes through 1 m² window surface is characterized by the value U (heat transfer coefficient), while the amount of solar energy that passes through 1 m² is represented by g (solar factor). The lower the value of U, the more high-energy-efficient the windows are. The lower the value of the solar factor, the higher sun protection it has.
Types of glazing:
  • Single glazing (U values up to 5.8 W/m² K) almost is not applied; it can be seen in old buildings.
  • Energy-efficient glazing - consists of two or three glasses, separated from each other by an air layer. Heat loss from passing is at half of this in single glazing.
  • High energy efficient glazing - U values are between 0.4 and 1.6W/m² K with insulating properties 50-60% better than that of efficient glazing.
High energy efficient glazing:
  • Two or three glasses means more layers of protection between the external environment and your home.
  • ARGON - not toxic colorless gas that is denser than air. When placed in the chamber of the glazing, it provides additional insulation from heat and cold.
  • Windows with low emission (LOW-E) coatings. The so-called “multifunctional” or “multi-season” glass is produced by applying a very thin transparent layer of material with metallic origin on a transparent glass. This coating has low conductivity and a double feature: reflects the high frequency infrared radiation, specific of heat and reflects much of the sun energy at the same time. Thanks to it you save energy both in summer and winter. In winter it reflects the heat emitted from heating appliances and occupants back into the room by keeping the rooms warm and in summer it prevents the sun heat to penetrate inside, leaving the premises cool and protects your carpets, furniture and curtains from fading.
  • The so-called “warm spacer”, or SWISSPACER, maintains a higher temperature at the edge of the glass, which significantly reduces heating costs and the risk of condensation. This, in turn, reduces the accumulation of harmful fungi and mildew on the window. Reducing condensation is related to extending the life of your windows.

1. GLAZING
MILKANA makes various combinations of glass and materials so that they are appropriate to the weather conditions and various exposures of facades to achieve maximum efficiency.
We have developed three main classes of energy-saving glazing MILKANA ENERGY - I, II, III, as well as the option of energy saving and impact resistant glazing MILKANA ENERGY III – GUARD and MILKANA ENERGY II – SAFETY, which have energy saving and safety.

The safety glazing reduces the risk of injury from breakage.

Tempered (toughened) glass - tempering is done as the float glass is heated above the hardening point of 600°C, then immediately cooled by air. All glass processing such as cutting, edging, and drilling were performed before that. It is 6 times stronger than the normal one and when it breaks it fractures into small and not sharp pieces. It withstands high temperatures. It is used for glass doors, windows, screens, shower cabins. Many types of glass can be hardened.
Laminated glass (Triplex) - ТTriplex is in the safety glass group. It consists of two sheets of glass, connected to each other by one or more layers of multicomponent resin (PVB - polyvinyl butyral), characterized by high adhesion, tensile strength and elasticity. This resin is transparent and does not affect the glass optical properties. In case of breaking it retains the sharp pieces in place. Therefore, the Triplex is widely used nowadays, both in the interior and the exterior, and is required for many public buildings and places with high risk of breaking. It’s resistant to burglary and storms and earthquakes. Besides protection, it has very good insulating properties. It can be made of different types of glass – low emission, colored, etc., as well as of clear glass with colored resin layer.

  • Heat Transfer Coefficient (Ug) –indicates the amount of heat that passing per unit time through 1 square meter glazed surface at a temperature difference of 1K between the contacting with the room air glass and the one outside (Ug = W/m2/K). This is the most important technical feature of a glass pane. The lower the value, the smaller the heat losses are and the lower the heating costs.
  • Solar Factor g (%) – the sum of the transferred directly energy and the part of the energy absorbed by the glass which is radiated from the glazing to the interior. The greater the direct reflection of solar energy from the glass is, the lower the solar factor is and the lower costs are for air conditioning during the summer months.
  • Light Transmittance (%) – the passage of visible light (natural light). The lower value, the darker the room is.
  • Reflectiveness (%) – the amount of the reflected from the glazing light. The greater the reflectance of the glass pane, the greater its mirror effect is.
